Executive Summary
people-places-work.info is a non-funded start up in the information mining space which is seeking venture capital funding from firms like Charles River Ventures. The founder has 20 years of experience in technology and business.
Our primary product will be a Wiki-like web site of people, places, and work in the technology field. It will be structured as org chart and saved in xml format. Future versions of this Wiki might also venture into sports, politics, or hobbies.
It is structured so that "guests" can create an information portal of what is going on where and by whom. For an example of our business competitors, see "CorpTech", Pearson's "The Hidden Job Market", or "Thompson Register". Guests will discuss happenings on our blogs. Additionally, we will seed information. We will have links to news articles in published magazines and the corporate media. We will take articles appearing in trade journals and distill the information as our primary source. Information will be obtained by looking at the help wanted ads to keep tab on who is doing what. Finally, we will allow people who have interviewed for positions to post meaningful information. For example, if someone knows about developments he read in a tech journal, he can post that information for all to share. To protect ourselves from slander law suits, we will have to incorporate, as well as have internal monitors to verify information, e.g. as wikipedia does with posted information. This is not a community bulletin board for advertising purposes. However, if someone wants to discuss a company's offerings from a technical standpoint, then we want that information. In order to make the information valuable, it must be accurate and meaningful. This will be handled by our internal monitors.
Our external goals are to assist job seekers looking for business contacts, establish business by looking at work being done by competitors and partners, and scout talent looking for potential recruits. Our internal goals are to mine information and sell it to interested parties
Business and Sales experience. An MBA would be extremely helpful. Cold calling experience and business contacts essential. Experience with bringing an idea to market desired. I will pitch this idea to seek venture capital when we have something working well enough to demonstrate and generating revenue. We need to demonstrate that this idea can make money on its own right before accepting outside investment. VCs take a pound of flesh as collateral.
Software Desired skills: C++/Java/C# programming of web services, Apache Tomcat, Server installation and set up, Linux or Windows knowledge. This is the most in-demand skill to get this project off the ground.
Other skills also desired: We need people with administrative skills, a good working of the English language to proofread and revise articles like this. We also are looking for graphic artists skilled in the use of Adobe PhotoShop to create graphic and web pages.
We are looking for business partners interested in being a part of a dynamic and exciting start up which has the potential to be an information broker. Initially, we will pay everyone through stock options based on your contributions and accomplishments. I want everyone involved in having a long term investment in the success of this venture. In short, we have to use our skills and relationships with each other to generate leads and deliver results. Once we get revenue coming in, we will work on a commission basis. If you bring in business, we will split the proceeds and the revenue stream.
We will generate revenue in two ways. A portion of our revenue will come through internet advertisement and the selling of ad space. The majority of our revenue will come in providing software solutions to businesses, data mining, information and content management. We will charge for searches, especially for recruiters looking for additional information. Additional revenue will come from the sale of components to whoever might be interested in paying for them. We believe that we can make money through customer support of these components. Companies and individuals will pay money to know about their competitors and the feasibility of marketing future products.
